Taking down a sports drink on a hot day is not always an easy task. When it comes to sugary beverages, I generally water them down in the summer, but that can also reduce it's potency.

CarboRocket is a fairly new energy drink hitting the market that puts just as much emphasis on making their product taste good as they are making it nutritionally sound. Looking at the package, the first thing I noticed was the incredible amount of electrolytes and vitamin C this is packed with. Sodium, potassium, and calcium are all present to help maintain proper electrolyte balance, which is crucial when it come to muscle coordination, heart function, and fluid absorption. They also throw in 110 calories and 27 grams of carbs to keep your match sticks burning.

The makers of CarbRocket put a big emphasis on the 2:1 ratio of Maltodextrin to Fructose. What this ratio of starch sugars to sugar reducers means, I have no clue, but here's what the folks at CarbRocket say:

Lately there have been some strong challenges by upstarts to the established kings of endurance and recovery products. First it was Fluid, a very effective recovery drink. Now it is CarboRocket, a product designed to be the "next generation of sports drinks."

From CarboRocket developer, Brad Keyes:

CarboRocket is a little project I've been working on for about 2 years. I had come to the conclusion that I wasn't capable of drinking anything but water for endurance training and events because everything else (sports drink wise) made me sick. I realized I needed something so I started messing around with different ingredients and formulas and have been tweaking it for the last 18 months with input from the Monavie-Cannondale pro-team, an exercise physiologist, and a nutritionist I know. I think we finally nailed it. I knew I was on to something once the repeat orders started coming in.

While I've shipped it to every state in the country,...

I’ll admit, the first time I tried CarboRocket I wasn’t hooked. Over the past 14 years I’ve tried many sports drinks and during that time I acquired a taste that was much different. I was hooked on the sharp and over saturated taste of drinks like Cytomax or Accelerade. Carbo Rocket didn’t have that immediate kick, but it was pretty smooth going down. I still wasn’t convinced though and continued to use my other options. The hard part about using the other brands, is that sharp taste was often accompanied by quick bursts of energy and an immediate downfall. Plus, if I happened to use it over a long period of time, it would wreak havoc on my insides.

As CarboRocket continued to develop and come out with new flavors I became even more interested. Numerous times I’d stop by the CarboRocket tent at the local races, fill up my bottle and give it another chance. In 2009, just before the PCP2P endurance race I realized I was running short with my current drink mix and was in need...

I really liked CarboRocket and it worked great for me. I tested the Lemon-Lime flavor over a 6 week period and found it to be tasty and effective. The
products claim of being mild on the digestive system to be accurate for me. It
provided sustained energy over long rides, at the rate of 1 bottle per hour in hot
weather and on short rides if I began to drink it 30 minutes prior to riding.
I found the taste of the Lemon Lime took some getting used to at first. It
has a smooth, almost creamy texture. I also noted the lack of acidic “bite” that
I sometimes taste with other drinks. I found the energy provided to be long
lasting and worked well with other energy foods. I did not feel nausea or heart
burn under hard riding, as I have with other sports drinks.
I found as I tested the drink that it had some clumping when mixing in the
bottle, whether I added water before or after the mix. Keyes shared the fact
that a new...
