Taking down a sports drink on a hot day is not always an easy task. When it comes to sugary beverages, I generally water them down in the summer, but that can also reduce it's potency.

CarboRocket is a fairly new energy drink hitting the market that puts just as much emphasis on making their product taste good as they are making it nutritionally sound. Looking at the package, the first thing I noticed was the incredible amount of electrolytes and vitamin C this is packed with. Sodium, potassium, and calcium are all present to help maintain proper electrolyte balance, which is crucial when it come to muscle coordination, heart function, and fluid absorption. They also throw in 110 calories and 27 grams of carbs to keep your match sticks burning.

The makers of CarbRocket put a big emphasis on the 2:1 ratio of Maltodextrin to Fructose. What this ratio of starch sugars to sugar reducers means, I have no clue, but here's what the folks at CarbRocket say:

"That's the magic ratio. New research indicates that a 2:1 ratio of Maltodextrin to Fructose provides the most sustained energy during extended periods of exercise."

What it really comes down to for me is taste and performance. I tested out the Raspberry Lemonade, but they also offer up Kiwi Lime and Mango. What I most pleased with was how mild the flavor was. It was enough to notice the taste, but not overwhelming at all, and light enough that I didn't get sick of it in the heat. As far as performance is concerned, it certainly did the job. Three hours in the saddle, one bottle, and no cramps. It's hard to ask for much more.

The price is right at $16 for 13 packets (each packet is good for a 24oz bottle), so you have few excuses for not giving it a try.
